Amon Rûdh
Amon Rûdh is an alpine climbing wall in British Columbia’s Eldred Valley. The area has a long approach and is the furthest wall in the valley, but it is regarded as having particularly strong potential for clean free climbing.
The approach takes about three hours from the vehicle-access point. Four-wheel drive is needed on the logging roads, after which the route continues on foot through logging slash, old-growth forest, boulders, a gully, and a faint trail near a major waterfall.
The wall includes The Mormegil on its west end, a 500 m, 11-pitch trad, aid, and alpine route graded 5.10 C1. Its climbing combines varied styles and includes slab, crack, chimney, offwidth, aid, and mixed alpine movement. Other routes documented on Amon Rûdh include Kolibri Crack, On the Virg, and Slabs of Nim.
Amon Rûdh was established in October 1999, when ten new pitches were climbed over three days. The wall’s remote setting and sustained approach make it an objective for experienced parties prepared for a full alpine day.
