1. Information We Collect
1.1 Location data
- Precise location (GPS, GNSS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular signals) is collected to show your live position on the map, record your activity (for example: ski tour, hike, bike ride), and generate a GPS track.
- If you start a tracking/recording session, the App may continue to collect your location in the background, including while the screen is off or the App is not in the foreground, until you manually stop tracking.
- Location data can include routes, tracks, speed, distance, elevation, and timestamps associated with your movement.
1.2 User content
- Routes, tracks, waypoints, photos, notes, and other map data you create, import, or sync (your "Activities").
- By default, Activities that you record may be used in aggregate and without identifying you personally to generate community map insights such as popularity heatmaps and usage statistics.
- You can mark an Activity as private. When an Activity is private, it is excluded from future community heatmaps and similar aggregated insights.
- We store your Activities so you can view them later, sync them across your devices, or restore them if you reinstall the App.
1.3 Account information
- Email address and basic profile details you provide when you create an account, sign in, or subscribe to Outmap Pro.
- Purchase and subscription status (for example, active / expired). We do not collect full payment card numbers; billing is handled by the App Store / Play Store / payment processor.
1.4 Diagnostic / analytics data
- Crash reports, performance data, device model, OS version, and general usage information.
- We use analytics tools to understand which features are working, find bugs, and improve stability.
We do not collect government ID numbers, payment card numbers, or health data.
2. How We Use the Information
We use the information described above to:
- Show your real-time position on the map.
- Let you review your past trips and sync them across your own devices.
- Help you navigate offline in the backcountry when you choose to record or view your position.
- Improve safety-related features like elevation and slope angle overlays.
- Create anonymous, aggregated insights about where people travel outdoors (for example, heatmaps of commonly used trails) to improve route discovery for the community.
- Operate, maintain, and improve the App (debugging, crash analysis, performance tuning).
- Communicate with you about important changes, product updates, and service messages.
- Send optional marketing or tips emails if you have opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time.
3. Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information or your precise location data, and we do not share your precise location data with third parties for advertising.
We may share limited data with:
- Service providers who host data, send crash reports, process subscriptions, send emails, or provide analytics. They are allowed to use the data only to perform services for us.
- Law enforcement or regulators if we are legally required to do so.
- Other people in two cases:
- When you explicitly choose to share content (for example, you export a GPX file, generate a share link, or make an Activity public).
- When your Activity contributes to anonymous, aggregated community insights such as trail popularity heatmaps. These insights do not display your name, account information, or an identifiable full GPS track.
By default, Activities you record may contribute to these anonymous, aggregated insights. You can mark an Activity as private in the App, and private Activities are excluded from future heatmap aggregation.
4. Data Storage and Retention
- Your account information, tracks, and waypoints may be stored on our servers so that they can sync across your devices and be restored if you sign in again.
- We keep this data for as long as your account is active, unless you delete it or request deletion.
- Crash logs and technical analytics may be kept for a shorter period and are generally stored without direct identifiers.
5. Your Choices and Controls
Location permissions
- You can choose whether to grant location access. Some features (showing your position on the map, recording an activity, generating an accurate GPS track) will not work without precise location.
- You can revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings.
- You can stop background tracking at any time by ending the recording session in the App.
Access / correction / deletion
- You can edit, delete, or mark an Activity as private directly in the App. When an Activity is private, it is excluded from future community heatmaps and similar aggregated insights.
- You may also request account deletion and associated data deletion by contacting us at [email protected]. When your account is deleted, we will remove personal data that identifies you, except data we are required to keep for legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons.
Marketing communications
- You can unsubscribe from marketing emails by using the unsubscribe link in the message. Service / transactional emails (for example: subscription status, important safety notices) may still be sent.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information during transmission and while stored. No method of storage or transfer over the internet is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. International Transfers
Your information may be stored and processed in countries other than your home country. Those locations may have different data protection rules than where you live.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in features, regulations, or how we handle data. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and may notify you in-app or by email.
