Inspiration McAllister Loop

1 photo

The Inspiration Glacier is considered by many as the spiritual heart of the North Cascades, and the summits of Eldorado and Klawatti provide a fun link-up in a truly inspiring place.

Eldorado itself is a 50 Classic Descent and worthy objective for the aspiring ski mountaineer, but can also be neatly combined into a scenic loop with the McAllister Glacier and South Face of Klawatti Peak. After ascending the standard East Ridge to the summit, skiers and riders can drop onto the more sustained Northeast Face of Eldorado and connect to the McAllister via the Tepeh Col.

A stunning and mellow descent and ascent on the upper McAllister links over to the Klawatti Col, with an optional exposed climb to the top of the nunatak-like summit. Steep turns down Klawatti Peak connect to a bench and the lower Inspiration Glacier, where a glacier climb will brings you back to the start of the loop. Eldorado and Klawatti were first skied from their summits in 1981 and 2001.
