Sahale Mountain Doubtful Lake

1 photo

The Sahale Arm needs little introduction to Washington hikers - it is just as stunning when blanketed in snow and combines well with a ski descent down to Doubtful Lake.

One of the most popular and iconic hikes in the state, Cascade Pass and the Sahale Arm are also frequently traveled by skiers and riders. With moderate terrain and expansive views, skinning up to the Sahale Glacier Camp makes for a highly enjoyable ski tour. The arm can be retraced back down, or alternatively a descent of the Doubtful Gullies offers quite a bit more fall-line and sustained turns.

Skiable from just below the rocky summit pyramid on the South Face, a direct line can be taken down the Sahale Glacier, past the camp, and all the way down to the lake. A variety of gullies offers several options for an engaging descent turns, before crossing the lake and making a short climb back over the lower arm and down into the valley below. Sahale was first skied as early as 1958.
