Sahale Mountain West Face

1 photo

The West Aspect of the well-loved Sahale Mountain provides an excellent descent into Boston Basin.

The Quien Sabe (translation: who knows?) Glacier is perched high above the Cascade River, and makes for a straightforward and high quality ski ascent or descent. The Boston-Sahale Col at the top provides a wild position for a high camp, as well as a technical access onto Boston Peak and the upper Boston glacier, an up and over traverse of Sahale Mountain, or a transition spot to ski back down the Quien Sabe or into the steeper West Face descent.

The direct West Face is a clean thousand foot pitch of steep, fall-line turns straight off the summit of Sahale Mountain. The upper pitch is then followed by an enormous run back into the valley down the drainages of Midas creek or Soldier Boy creek, eventually meeting back up with the Boston Basin or Cascade Pass Trail switchbacks thousands of feet below. First descent unknown.
