Burt Ravine North
Route Details
Burt Ravine sits on the north side of the northern Presidential Range above Randolph, in the same general backcountry zone highlighted on the dedicated Presidential Range ski map. It is a true backcountry line in complex alpine terrain, not a cut glade or managed ski trail, and is typically skied only by experienced parties with solid avalanche skills and comfort on steep, committing descents.
Approach is via standard Randolph trail networks and then off-trail travel into the drainage; expect a mix of packed trail and deep, unconsolidated snow once you leave the main routes. The ravine itself holds wind-transported snow and can build stiff slabs over old crusts, with terrain traps in the gut and overhead hazard from the headwall and sidewalls. Parties should be fully self-sufficient, carry avalanche rescue gear, and be prepared to turn around if coverage, stability, or visibility are not in their favor.
This is not a beginner or “intro” tour. Treat it like any serious Presidential Range objective: check the regional avalanche forecast, watch for recent wind events, and have a clear uptrack and escape plan before you drop. For broader context and route-finding, consult the dedicated Presidential Range backcountry ski map and field guide: Presidential Range Backcountry Ski Map.
