Mother In Law

Mother In Law is a steep backcountry ski line on the Great Gulf headwall of Mount Washington, within the Great Gulf Wilderness. Access is typically from the Great Gulf Trailhead on NH 16: once parked, follow the Great Gulf Trail along the West Branch of the Peabody River into the cirque, then climb into the upper basin toward the headwall before booting up the specific gully when conditions and stability allow.

The line sits in complex alpine terrain above treeline, with exposure, rock bands, and serious fall consequences similar to other Great Gulf gullies. Snow is heavily wind-affected; slabs, firm bed surfaces, and thin cover over rock are common. Overhead hazard from cornices and ice, plus terrain traps low in the drainage, make conservative timing and routefinding mandatory.
