ADK 46er Final Leg off Emmons
This is the “final leg” finish route for the Adirondack 46ers Seward Range sequence, ending at the wooded summit of Mount Emmons (3rd peak in the Seward Range). From Emmons you exit by Calkins Brook, which avoids having to reclimb the more rugged Seward-Donaldson-Emmons line.
The route links into the Seward Range trail system via several named corridors, including Blueberry Trail and Calkins Brook Trail / Calkins Brook Truck Trail as the main descent and walk-out components.
Route character is defined by mud-and-bog terrain between Donaldson and Emmons; expect thick, slow footing where the trail drops into low spots and remains saturated. Waterproof boots and gaiters are the practical call if conditions are wet.
The summit-to-exit direction is straightforward: once back on the way down from Emmons, you stay oriented to the Donaldson-to-Emmons corridor on the ridge/line of travel until you connect into the Calkins Brook herd path before committing to the marked Calkins Brook Truck Trail.
Navigation matters because parts of the linkages are herd-path travel and can be hard to stick to where blowdowns or wet, feature-slimy ground obscure the tread. A compass is a useful tool for staying pointed correctly from Donaldson toward Emmons and for finding the right descent connection.
Plan for a long day: the curated mapping for this “final leg” is 9.44 km with a day-hike tier suited to experienced hikers who can manage sustained Adirondack high-peak terrain.
