Apolong Trail

Apolong Trail is the standard access hike from Valencia to the summit of Mount Talinis on Negros Island. The route runs up to a high point at Talinis and is commonly done as an out-and-back from the Valencia side.

Expect sustained steep climbing and technical footing: steep inclines with roots and rocks that can turn slippery and strenuous, especially after rain. The trail is described as a demanding “major climb” with a high difficulty rating (roughly 7/9).

The climb passes several recognizable landmarks, including Twin Falls, a Rancho campsite, active Kaipohan Sulfur Vents, and Lake Nailig near the upper part of the route. These stops define the character of the ascent as you work your way toward the summit.

Most people plan this as an overnight trip. A typical approach uses a night at Lake Nailig (campsite) and then makes the final push to the summit; the overall outing is often paced for about 2 days and 1 night.

There’s also a traverse option if you want a different exit route: ascend via Apolong Trail and descend using Bediao Trail (leading toward Dauin). With that setup, you’d plan on permits for both sides of the mountain route.

Because this is steep and technically grounded, you’ll want to be prepared for slow progress and carry proper gear and water for the multi-day effort. A registered guide is required for this trek under local policy, and permits/fees apply.
