Arkon Lake Loop
Arkon Lake Loop is a loop hike in Frontenac Provincial Park, tracing the perimeter of Arkon Lake through mature hardwood forest and wet ground. The route crosses a ring bog complex and links together several beaver ponds along the way.
The hiking character is built around water and wetland terrain: you’ll spend significant time near beaver ponds and in boggy areas rather than on dry ridge tread. Expect an easy pace in terms of difficulty overall, but don’t plan on “dry feet” through the bog-ring sections.
For timing, plan on about 3 to 4.5 hours for the 11 km loop. Time estimates vary by conditions, but the typical window stays in that range for a straightforward day hike.
A handy built-in option is the 8 km Bufflehead Trail, which bisects the Arkon Loop so you can shorten the outing without abandoning the loop network.
Start the hike near the Park Office / Arab Lake parking area. From there, follow the loop trail system back to your start point after circling Arkon Lake.
Frontenac is managed with day-use fees and permits in place for access. Trail conditions can vary, and the loop includes muddy areas and rocky bits, so bring footwear you’re comfortable walking on in wet, uneven ground.
