Artemis Trail

Artemis Trail is a 7 km circular hike in the Troodos National Forest Park, looping around Chionistra (Mount Olympos). It’s timed at about 2.5–3 hours and generally described as easy to moderate, with the route starting and ending near 1,835–1,850 m elevation.

The loop is centered on a black pine (Pinus nigra) forest belt, and it’s known for passing stands with two long-lived black pine trees estimated at around 500 years old.

Keep an eye out for the trail’s mix of geology and plants: the route highlights endemic species (including Cyprus Skullcap, Cyprus germander, Troodos sage, and others) and exposes distinctive rock types such as dunite and harzburgite in places.

There’s also a historical stop along the route: the “Walls of the Old Chora” (makeshift fortification ruins) associated with the last years of Venetian occupation in Cyprus (1571 AD).

For navigation, plan around the stated start location: roughly 300 m from where the Chionistra road meets the Troodos–Prodromos road, near the Cyprus Ski Club car park; the trail is marked with signage throughout.

The course is largely on flat to gently sloping contour, but it can be rocky and narrow in sections. The mapped loop climbs/descends only modestly overall, though it includes an uphill finish wave after the skiing area that’s described as a short push (around 200–300 m).

On a clear day, the trail’s higher points are described as offering island-wide views across Limassol, Paphos, and Nicosia provinces, making the route especially rewarding when visibility is good.
