Bay Valley View Trail
Bay Valley View Trail is a long-distance hike route in Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park. The trail is built for effort—steep sections show up, and the climbing is sustained enough that it reads “strenuous” on common route descriptions.
Expect dirt trail underfoot, with wide, exposed tread and limited shade. The combination of open slope and exposed dirt means you’ll feel heat quickly on warm days, so plan around sun and hydration.
The route runs through East Bay hillside terrain that mixes oak-covered slopes with grassy hills, and it’s commonly used as a workout hike rather than an easy stroll. Use lightweight planning for a longer push: long-distance endurance pace works better than short-break pacing.
As you climb, the route is known for expansive views over the valley below. The emphasis is on broad sightlines rather than tight, shaded corridors, so the hike rewards early starts and late-day timing to avoid the strongest sun.
If you want to extend the outing, this trail is also described in common loop options that link it with Sunol Peak via the Sunol Ridge Trail. It can also be linked with nearby trails like Deer Gulch or the Ridgeline Trail for longer mileage.
This route is multi-use on dirt and supports non-motorized travel such as horseback riding; bicycles are permitted on the shared dirt trail system. Keep situational awareness for mixed-use traffic, especially on narrower segments and near junctions with other trails.
