Boquet Forks Trail
Boquet Forks Trail is a remote, lightly marked hiking line in the Adirondack High Peaks area near Lake Placid, used as the main approach for Grace Peak and the Great Slide. The hike is commonly done as an out-and-back of about 10 miles and takes roughly 4–6 hours.
The start is along State Highway 73, just south of the bridge over the North Fork of the Boquet River. The trailhead is easy to miss: look for a trail register box and a small dirt road leading in.
Early hiking runs close to the Boquet River. For the first 4+ miles, the route parallels the river and brings multiple stream crossings that can require extra attention.
Navigation is the main challenge: the trail is minimally marked, un-blazed in stretches, and can be hard to keep track of when you lose the tread. Carry an offline digital map and don’t rely on GPS alone if the ground becomes faint or obscured.
Camping opportunities are limited to designated primitive sites marked with yellow “tent” signs along the first 4 miles. Plan on leaving no trace and keep in mind this is within the Eastern High Peaks Wilderness rules.
The final approach steepens late. The last mile climbs sharply toward the Great Slide area before reaching the peak, so expect a sustained grind near the end.
