Day 08: Trek to Yak Kharka
Day 08:Trek to Yak Kharka (4,050m / 13,287ft), Distance: 11 km and Duration: 3-4 hours
Today you’ll have a more leisurely walk along peaceful mountain paths after leaving Manang's cozy stone houses behind. The massive Annapurna peaks stay close to you throughout the hike.
The trail passes through tiny Tengi village, where only a few families live year-round. Then the green grass slowly disappears as the land gets drier near Gunsang. The clear Marshyangdi River sparkles alongside the path while Chulu West and Chulu East mountains stand in the distance.
As you’ll have to walk around 11 kilometers, make sure that you walk slowly and drink plenty of water to be hydrated throughout the day. A solid wooden bridge crosses a rushing stream before the trail reaches Yak Kharka, where the animals graze on mountain grass.
