Day 10: Trek to Muktinath

Day 10:Trek to Muktinath over Thorong La Pass (5,416m / 17,769ft), Distance: 16.5 km, Duration: 7-8 hours.

The biggest day of the whole trek starts at 4:30 in the morning to beat the freezing winds that blow later. On this day, you’ll have to walk through steep rocky slopes covered with snow and thin mountain air.

Going slow with plenty of rest stops and lots of water keeps your body moving up the mountain. After 1 to 2 hours of hard climbing, the trail opens up at High Camp. Here’s where you’ll get to enjoy incredible views of Thorung Peak, Khatungkang, and Yakawa Kang towering overhead.

Zigzag paths can make this climb feel endless. But after 3 to 4 hours of walking, you’ll reach Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters high. Colorful prayer flags snap in the wind around stone shrines that mark this famous crossing point.

The full Annapurna range spreads out like a giant wall of ice and rock, with the Great Barrier Ridge stretching endlessly into the distance. This moment makes all the pain and exhaustion disappear as you snap photos and celebrate your mountain victory. Then, you’ll get down to the Thorung Khola valley past Chambar Bhir with amazing views into the Kali Gandaki Valley. Dhaulagiri, the world's seventh-tallest mountain, dominates the southern horizon like a massive white pyramid.

The day ends at the sacred Muktinath Temple, where Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims light candles and spin prayer wheels. After this mountain crossing, you’ll get to sleep in simple guesthouses surrounding this holy place.
