Glenwood Horse Trail

Glenwood Horse Trail (GHT) is a hard hiking route in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests in Virginia, built around a Blue Ridge Parkway–adjacent corridor and designed as a long, backcountry-style line hike rather than a short stroll.

The route runs 65+ miles between Natural Bridge Station and Camp Bethel, following a mix of advanced singletrack, jeep tracks, and gated fire roads.

Most people don’t try to do the entire GHT in one go; common approaches are smaller sections and out-and-back or looping trips cut from the main trail system.

This is terrain-first hiking: expect rugged ridges and overall difficulty that’s described as advanced/difficult, with track and singletrack that can turn rocky and steep depending on the section you choose.

The trail is shared by multiple user types in the larger system, including hikers, horseback riders, and mountain bikers.

If you’re planning around navigation and map accuracy, it helps to use a detailed backcountry topo map—there are many turns and intersections once you start linking sections and using the associated roads and connector segments.
