Goose River Trail
Goose River Trail is a rugged day hike in Fundy National Park, New Brunswick, covering 11.4 km one way (about 22.8 km round trip). Expect sustained elevation change with steep sections and river-valley crossings, so plan it as a hard effort rather than a casual walk.
The route starts at the Point Wolfe parking lot and heads through coastal spruce forest terrain. Along the way, it repeatedly crosses small streams that feed toward the Bay of Fundy drainage systems and broadens into larger valley terrain.
A key theme on the trail is the descent into and travel through deep valleys, including the Miles Brook area. After working up through the higher ground, you’ll finish at Goose River Beach with direct beach access.
The Goose River Trail also functions as the access link to the Fundy Footpath, a 41 km+ multi-day wilderness trek running from Fundy National Park toward the Big Salmon River near St. Martins. If you’re planning a longer outing, treat Goose River as a logical connection point for that coastal backcountry corridor.
Backcountry camping is available at campsites along the Goose River route and on Goose River beach, with multiple established camp areas in the Goose River Valley region. Overnight use requires advance planning through the park reservation process for campsites and entry/permit requirements.
Expect terrain that’s easy to underestimate when you’re tired: steep sections, valley floors, and frequent stream crossings mean conditions can turn slow quickly. Plan your timing for the full one-way distance (or the 22.8 km round-trip loop) and allow a return buffer for water crossings and elevation gain.
