GR 107
GR 107 (“Camí dels Bons Homes” / “Chemin des Bonshommes”) is the historic long-distance hiking route that retraces the 13th-century escape routes used by the Cathars fleeing religious persecution.
The full GR 107 links Foix in Ariège, France, with the Sanctuary of Queralt in Berga, Catalonia, Spain. It’s typically completed in about 9–10 stages over roughly 9–12 days on foot.
The route crosses the Pyrenees, with medium-to-high mountain terrain and substantial elevation gain, including high pass country. This is a demanding itinerary even before you factor in long days between stages.
Most hikers plan to walk it south to north (Berga toward Montségur / Foix), matching the common stage sequence used for the classic itineraries.
As a long-distance GR, it is designed for multi-day hiking along the named corridor, so expect a continuous commitment to navigation, pacing, and sustained effort across stages rather than a short out-and-back day hike.
For winter planning, one common consideration is that snow can cover higher sections during the colder months; plan accordingly for the relevant Pyrenean zones along the route.
