Grizzly Shoulder
Classic Rogers Pass tree skiing on Grizzly Shoulder. South to southeast aspects with naturally gladed lanes and small slide paths. Below and near treeline terrain with pillows, gullies, convex rolls and short cliff bands. Typical slopes run 25–35°. Storm-day friendly when the alpine is nuked, but avalanches still run in the trees.
From the Rogers Pass Discovery Centre, follow the Connaught Creek route, cross the bridge to the north bank, then gain the Grizzly Shoulder uptrack. Skintracks are often steep and slick; set your own if needed. Drop options abound back toward Connaught, staying aware of terrain traps in gullies and under cliff bands.
Hazards: overhead control work and artillery—zones may be closed. Small slabs and loose slides in treed paths; convexities can step down. Navigation errors can cliff you out; scope your line. Best in cold storms or settled powder; sun affects south faces quickly.
Access requires compliance with Parks Canada’s Winter Permit System; check daily area status before touring and carry your permit. Official info
