Guintubdan Trail

Guintubdan Trail is a long-distance hiking route on Mt. Kanlaon in the Philippines. It’s used as a primary ascent line and also as the faster descent option after a strenuous climb on the mountain.

Expect a rainforest-dominant hike under dense canopy, with limited direct sun and damp, humid conditions through much of the walk.

In most trip plans, it’s treated as an easier option relative to other Mt. Kanlaon routes, but it still runs multi-day. Typical round-trip planning lands around 2 to 3 days depending on pacing and how you break the climb.

The route’s length is commonly given as roughly 8–9 km one-way, with a starting elevation around 900 m and progression toward the summit area at about 2,465 m.

A major reason people choose Guintubdan is the water: the lower portion of the trail features waterfalls that stand out as a highlight of the descent/route experience.

Along the way, biodiversity is a real part of the trip. Bring long layers and plan for heavy mosquito activity, since the humid forest environment tends to make bites an issue.

Mt. Kanlaon is an active volcano, so conditions can change quickly. Before going, you’ll need to arrange the required registration/permits and hire local guides for your climb attempt.

Group sizes can be limited on Mt. Kanlaon routes, so plan your logistics around the available slots and guide capacity.
