La Manche Village Path

La Manche Village Path is a ~6.4 km East Coast Trail day hike on the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland and Labrador, running from Tors Cove to the former settlement of La Manche and finishing at the 50 m suspension bridge.

This hike is known for the suspension bridge over a deep ocean inlet, plus remnants of the abandoned outport, including old slate foundations of homes once in the community.

The route profile is generally an easy-to-moderate affair for experienced walkers, with a mix of wooded walking and built sections such as boardwalks, plus some stairs.

Expect to spend a little time watching tidal life and small wildlife along the way—otters and puffins (Pee Pee Island) are specifically noted on the route description—while the bridge area is a focal point of the walk.

There are multiple practical access points: from the community of Tors Cove (park east of Sacred Heart Church), from St. Michaels via the church parking lot, and from La Manche Provincial Park/La Manche Road where there’s a day-use area and also a shorter approach by way of a 1.4 km access path into the village.

Good footwear matters on this corridor because the route is flagged as requiring trail-rated shoes, and winter months don’t get active path-clearing/conditions updates; bring a map/GPS if you’re relying on navigation.
