Lake Clarice Trail

Lake Clarice Trail (#1066), also known as Marmot Lake Trail, is a hiker-only route in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. It starts at Deception Pass and heads north and northwest toward the Blue Ridge area, then climbs and drops for about three miles before reaching the Lake Clarice Trail 1066.1 junction.

From the Deception Pass junction, the route continues a fourth mile to Marmot Lake, then another 0.6 miles to Lake Clarice. The corridor is listed as a ground surface trail and is managed specifically for hiking use (no stock permitted).

This is a challenging four-mile hiking approach when you treat Lake Clarice as the destination from Deception Pass. Length is given as “about 4 miles one-way” in wilderness route context, so plan on a solid day-trip effort if you’re going out and back within the wilderness.

Trailheads and wilderness rules matter here. An Alpine Lakes Wilderness self-issue permit is required for both day and overnight use, and it’s obtained at the trailheads during the summer season window stated for the area.

The trail is managed with wilderness restrictions: camp only in established campsites and there are no campfires on the route segment. Water availability is listed as none on the trail, so you need to carry enough for the distance between reliable sources.

The route is considered rugged and is sometimes overgrown, which tends to increase navigation difficulty in remote sections. Dogs are allowed but must be on leash; plan for natural-ground conditions rather than maintained tread.
