Les Loups Trail
Les Loups Trail (Sentier des Loups) is a day-hike in Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier that climbs hard to Mount Sautauriski. It’s mapped as an ~11 km round trip with about 447 m of elevation gain and is commonly described as difficult/strenuous for experienced hikers.
The route is an out-and-back: you start near a parking area inside the park at km 16 on the regional road (not the main visitor center), then work your way up toward the Sautauriski high point and back the same way.
Early on, the climb is steady and sustained through forest, transitioning from hardwood to softwood as you gain elevation.
The upper section is the steepest part of the hike, with rugged/rocky terrain where rope assists are reported for the final pull to the peak.
Expect viewpoints that anchor the hike: the route features two main lookouts over the Jacques-Cartier River valley, giving the payoff for the uphill effort.
Plan around a park access fee for daily entry to Sépaq-managed lands; this fee is often described as required for access to the park area where the trailhead is located.
Time expectation is typically about 3.5–4 hours for the full out-and-back, based on common reports for hikers tackling the climb at a moderate-to-brisk pace.
