Long Pine Key Nature Trail
Long Pine Key Nature Trail is the 5.9-mile one-way hiking option in Everglades National Park’s Pinelands, running across limestone rocklands between Long Pine Key Campground and Pine Glades Lake.
The corridor is generally flat and stays on dirt/grass surfaces, with frequent crossings/intersections with nearby forest roads—expect occasional route choice opportunities rather than one tight, purpose-built tread.
Start near Long Pine Key Campground; parking is available at the campground area on the trail’s eastern end, and the route heads west from there.
As the trail builds westward, it transitions through sawgrass prairie edges and pine rocklands, where limestone becomes more evident on the ground surface.
Wet-season timing matters here: sections can hold standing water or feel overgrown in summer, and mosquito pressure can be high during warmer wet months.
Bicycles are allowed on the overall Long Pine Key trails network; on this nature trail specifically, dirt/grass surfaces make it a poor fit for road bikes, while off-road or mountain bikes are the typical choice. The trail does not have wheelchair access.
