Medicine Bow Peak Trail
Medicine Bow Peak Trail (#295) is the main climbing line for getting to Medicine Bow Peak in Wyoming’s Snowy Range. The route climbs between the Lake Marie parking area and Lewis Lake, staying above timberline for the full length.
As a long-distance day hike, the trail is mapped as unpaved and climbs steeply after the Lake Marie side, then eases into alpine-meadow and rock-scree terrain as you move higher.
The final push up to the summit is where the route gets serious: it involves loose quartzite rock and a steep, scramble-like finish rather than a smooth, gradual grind.
A common strategy is to start early because the hike spends most of the day exposed, and afternoon weather can change quickly. The Wyoming peak area is also lightning-prone, with frequent summer storms discussed by hikers.
For routing options, the trail connects into a higher basin network near the summit and down toward Lewis Lake. From the peak area, you can link with the Lakes Trail system for longer loop variations.
On the ground, the route is marked as Trail #295 and is tied to recognized access points in the Medicine Bow Peak area; the mapping for this track centers on the Medicine Bow Peak Trail line and totals about 8.56 km for the mapped segment.
