Middle Fork Boise River Trail

The Middle Fork Boise River Trail is a long-distance hiking route in Idaho that runs along the Middle Fork Boise River, climbing upstream toward the Sawtooth wilderness area around Spangle Lakes and the Spangle Divide/region.

The route is designed for remote backcountry travel: expect persistent wilderness conditions, low to essentially no cell service, and navigation that relies on offline maps.

The hiking character is river-close and creek-crossing focused, with steady uphill progress as you move toward the headwaters; multiple crossings of creeks and the river are part of the route’s character.

Longer travel days are common because the trail is demanding for a thru-hike style itinerary—backcountry experience is the baseline expectation.

Logistically, a common way to stage this corridor is using Atlanta (via the Atlanta Guard Station / Rental Cabin area), since the Middle Fork Boise River Trail begins nearby from that travel basin.

You should scout and inspect the route on arrival and be ready for changing stream/river conditions; wet weather can raise the difficulty of river and creek crossings along this upstream, water-adjacent line.
