Monadnock-Metacomet M&M Trail

The Monadnock–Metacomet M&M Trail is a 114-mile long-distance hike tying together Massachusetts’ Metacomet Ridge with the central uplands of Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, with the route reaching Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire.

As a connector between trail systems, it continues the trail corridor from the Metacomet Trail at the Connecticut–Massachusetts state line to the summit of Mount Monadnock; the route is part of the New England National Scenic Trail system.

Expect sustained difficulty: the route is rated hard overall and includes steep, rocky terrain—especially where it traverses the trap rock ridges and ledgy sections around the Metacomet Ridge and the Mount Monadnock approach.

Trail character varies from ridge travel to upland stretches. On the Metacomet Ridge side, the corridor runs ridges of Provin Mountain, East Mountain, the Mount Tom Range, and the Holyoke Range; on the northern side it follows an elevated plateau edge before jogging near the Massachusetts/New Hampshire border en route north.

The trail is maintained largely through volunteer efforts connected to the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Berkshire-area chapter for the northern and western sections of the corridor, with ongoing clearing and preservation work.

Navigation relies on the route’s white blaze markings and associated white trail symbols/signage used for the M&M Trail corridor.
