Mont Richardson Trail

Mont Richardson Trail in Parc national de la Gaspésie (Quebec) is a hard, expert day hike in the McGerrigle sector, on the park’s south side.

It’s typically an out-and-back climb to Mont Richardson: about 5.81 km total in this route set, with 705 m of elevation gain, and roughly a 5–6 hour time commitment for many hikers.

Expect relentless uphill and demanding footing—especially in the lower portion where the route sits in dense forest and is often described as steep and rocky/uneven.

Above the treeline, the hike opens onto a more alpine ridgeline where you’re exposed for long stretches and the route is characterized by broad views across the Chic-Chocs region.

The approach works best when you’re prepared for a steep descent back down the same route; trekking poles are a practical choice for reducing stress on knees on the way out.

Some advanced hikers extend the day by connecting onward to Mont Joseph-Fortin, adding distance while keeping the same general “big climb, big ridgeline” character.
