NET Trail (white)
NET Trail (white) is the white-blazed footpath component of the New England Trail (NET), a long-distance hiking route on the Appalachian Mountain Club Western MA / Berkshire Chapter stewarded network in western Massachusetts.
In this region, the NET ties into the long-distance corridor that runs from Long Island Sound in Connecticut toward the Massachusetts/New Hampshire border, largely by following the historic Mattabesett, Metacomet, and Monadnock trail systems.
Follow the white blaze markings for staying on the NET: the route uses white blazes (rectangular paint marks on trees or rocks) to delineate the through-footpath. Where you’re off the NET, expect different marking conventions on side trails.
For this hard long-distance segment, plan around sustained trail work and demanding foot travel; the route is associated with demanding-mountain-hiking scale and uses dirt tread.
Because this is a corridor-style long-distance route with volunteer stewardship, expect occasional tread changes and maintenance features where water and erosion control are needed (and keep your navigation tight if you encounter damaged or missing paint).
For route planning, use the New England Trail interactive tools and scout the specific section you intend to hike; if weather turns wet, slow down and inspect your footing before committing, since painted turns and trail tread can be harder to read when saturated.
