Peters Trail #105
Peters Trail #105 is a demanding foot route in the Superstition Wilderness of the Tonto National Forest, in the Apache Junction area. It’s mapped as a long-distance hiking line that runs from the end of MT-213 at the Superstition Wilderness boundary to a connection with Dutchman Trail #104 at La Barge Creek. The trail is managed for hiking use only, with mechanized/motorized travel prohibited on the route.
Expect a rough, rocky desert tread and big elevation change for a relatively short distance: the route measures about 6.9 miles in length and climbs roughly 1,721 ft while descending about 1,166 ft. Treat it as hard/Black Diamond-level effort—this is not a casual day hike pace.
The “main line” context for planning starts at MT-213 and the Superstition Wilderness boundary. Access to MT-213 requires a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle, but you can also park at the MT-213 trailhead and hike the 3 miles of MT-213 to reach the wilderness boundary and the start of Peters Trail.
Once on Peters Trail, you’re in wilderness terrain that links into a larger web of foot trails. Dutchman Trail #104 is the key connector on the La Barge Creek end, opening up loop and multi-day backcountry options built from the surrounding trail network.
Water planning is central here. Semi-reliable springs exist along the general corridor (including Kane Spring), but you should plan to carry enough water for the full hike and treat any water sources you find.
Within wilderness rules, group logistics are constrained: no more than 15 people allowed in a group, and no more than 15 head of livestock in a group. Use is hiking-only; mountain biking isn’t recommended/appropriate in the wilderness context for this trail.
