Pinole Valley Multi-Use Trail

Pinole Valley Multi-Use Trail is a short-hiking-specific member route in the Pinole Valley Watershed, mapped as a connector that brings you back to the Pereira Road trailhead area. It’s a track-style route that’s also open to bikes and equestrians, with access marked as “yes” and vehicles limited to private use.

On the ground, the trail runs largely along exposed ranch/fire-road alignments, so shade is limited. Expect conditions to swing between hot and dry and slick when muddy, since the primary tread is more road-like than singletrack.

The route is typically run as loop mileage around 5.5–6.6 miles, with elevation gain in the 1,000–1,100 ft band. On one commonly mapped version, the connector run is about 6.55 miles with roughly 1,122 ft of gain.

Difficulties are generally pitched as Moderate for hiking. The grade is not constant—there’s a mix of flatter sections and steeper pushes—so it works best when you’re comfortable hiking sustained climbs on open grass/fire-road corridors.

If you’re planning this hike as part of a longer Pinole Ridge/Pinole Valley style loop, this connector piece helps link the steep ridge climb back into the rolling cattle-grazed grasslands of Pinole Valley.

Management is handled through the EBMUD watershed system. A trail permit is required to be on the watershed network, which is tied to the route’s access pattern via the Pereira Trailhead area.
