Princess Gina Trail
Princess Gina Trail (Fürstin-Gina-Weg), a loop hike in Liechtenstein’s Rätikon area, starts at Malbun (1,600 m) and climbs to Augstenberg at about 2,359 m before dropping back to Malbun.
Expect roughly 4.34 km of total distance on the loop you’re using here, with about 892 m of elevation gain and around 4.5–5 hours on the standard itinerary length. The route is tiered as hiking route 2, reflecting sustained uphill plus a steeper, exposed ridge segment.
The core experience is a ridge traverse: a narrow, rocky walking line with steep drop-offs, where sure-footedness matters. The ridge section includes short protected moments with wire/handrail assistance rather than long, exposed scrambling.
On the way up you reach Pfälzerhütte (2,108 m), a mountain cabin at the Austria–Liechtenstein border. The hut is a natural turnaround and rest point before you continue the descent portion of the loop.
After the hut, the return crosses back toward Liechtenstein via Alp Gritsch and Vaduzer Täli. This part is characterized by descending/contouring terrain through more open areas compared with the ridge walk.
For timing, the route is best from late spring through early fall. Early season can bring snow on higher ground, which can require traction aids; late-fall conditions can also make the hike more demanding on the upper sections.
