Rusty Bucket
Route Details
Rusty Bucket is a beginner-oriented mountain bike trail in the Brackendale (Woodlot) area of Squamish, on the west side of Highway 99. It’s typically ridden as a flat, warm-up style ride with a gentle, mostly south-to-north feel and lots of open, mossy second-growth forest singletrack.
Expect soft dirt with a root-and-rock mix rather than big challenges. The trail runs around a low, spaced-out pattern of roots and includes one notable feature: a blowdown log (stepped). It’s maintained by local volunteers via the Squamish Off-Road Cycling Association (SORCA), and it’s commonly used to practice line choice over everyday roots and rocks.
If you’re sending Rusty Bucket early in the season or after a wet spell, scout the log feature and check for slick roots/soft sections before rolling; Squamish riders use this kind of terrain for wet-ride practice, but it can still change ride traction quickly when conditions are slushy or muddy.
In the Brackendale trail network, Rusty Bucket is often rolled into larger easy loops with nearby trails such as Ray Peters Trails, Sweet Judy, and Wonderland, giving you more time on gentle ground without committing to steeper riding.
