Weeks Brook Trail
Weeks Brook Trail is a rugged long-distance hike in the White Mountain National Forest that climbs from the Chatham area up to Mount Kearsarge North and its historic fire tower. Plan on it being a steep, effort-heavy out-and-back rather than an easy woods walk.
Typical round-trip length is about 9.4–9.7 miles with roughly 2,716–2,719 feet of gain, commonly taking around 6 to 6.5 hours for many hikers. This profile is in the hard category.
The approach starts off Green Hill Road / South Chatham Road, following a gated forest-service road before turning onto singletrack. Early on, expect a generally remote feel toward Shingle Pond, with multiple brook crossings that can leave you with wet feet.
Once past Shingle Pond, the climb tightens up sharply. The route runs higher into a sub-alpine spruce-fir forest as you work your way toward the rocky summit area.
Near the top, you’re headed to the fire tower on Mount Kearsarge North. The summit is known for clear, broad 360° views, with the enclosed tower structure adding a sheltered vantage point.
The trail is less frequently used than the main Kearsarge North approach, so lower sections can be muddy at times and can include brushier or overgrown stretches. Route markings include yellow blazes and brown trail posts, especially through logging clearings.
