Zardung Kesar Yon Chhap Trail

Zardung Kesar Yon Chhap Trail is a long-distance hiking segment in the Miyar Valley trek system in Lahaul, Himachal Pradesh, India. It functions as an approach toward the Kang La Pass route.

Route scale is set as an out-and-back-style day segment from Zardung (~3,880 m) to Kesar Yon Chhap (~4,000 m), commonly tracked as about 10 km and roughly 5–6 hours of hiking time.

Start the day by dealing with the Takdung Nala crossing (a glacial stream). In practice, this is typically done early because water levels are lower.

After the crossing, the trail transitions into a rougher zone with moraine, loose scree, and scattered boulders, before it begins to ease into the broader valley terrain around the Kesar Yon Chhap approach.

A typical midday stop referenced for this trek section is Palphu, positioned near another glacial stream draining from the Chhudong glacier.

The final push toward Kesar Yon Chhap is described as comparatively gentler, with the route meandering beside the river as you approach the Miyar Glacier snout and the Kesar Yon Chhap campsite area.

Kesar Yon Chhap is treated as a sacred-lakes destination by Buddhists and is often used as a rest/acclimatization point before pushing higher toward Kang La Pass.
