7 Lagunas Trail

7 Lagunas Trail (Sendero 7 Lagunas) is a multi-day alpine traverse in Parque Nacional Patagonia, linking the Valle Chacabuco sector toward Cochrane. The route is typically done as a demanding 3 to 5-day trek over roughly 36–38 km (point-to-point).

Navigation is a key part of the hike: the trail can be faint in places, so plan on carrying a GPS or offline navigation rather than relying on continuous tread visibility.

Route character centers on high-altitude passes and a sequence of lagoons; along the way the route passes 7 distinct alpine lagoons, including Laguna la Guagua and Laguna Gutierrez.

For logistics, the route is commonly staged via the Casa de Piedra ranger station/campsite and then crosses the high pass through the Cordón Chacabuco.

Because it’s managed park terrain, check in with the park authority before going in; many hikers register in Cochrane as part of planning their entry and timing.

Seasonally, January and February are the warmest months, but they also coincide with heavy biting insects (tábanos), so pack strong insect protection and plan for weather exposure on the alpine sections.
