Abri Helbronner

Abri Helbronner is a small, free, unmanaged emergency shelter near the summit of Monte Rotondo in Corsica. It’s a rough stone shelter (dry-stone construction) built during the 1925 Helbronner expedition, with an interior hearth; it’s not a staffed hut, so plan to arrive self-sufficient with your own sleeping gear and food.

Capacity is very limited—roughly 2 to 10 people—with first-come, first-served use (no advance booking). The shelter has a door and a metal roof; it’s in a natural reserve, and you should be prepared for very basic conditions when the summit area is busy. Fire is possible only if you bring wood; there’s no water source right at the shelter. If you’re aiming for this as a summit-night option, carry a backup plan in case it’s already full.
