Alta Via di Neves

Alta Via di Neves (Neveser Höhenweg) is a long ring hike in South Tyrol, Italy, based around Selva dei Molini and walking along the approaches above the Neves-Stausee. Typical loop length is 16–17 km with a 6–8 hour hiking day.

Plan on a significant altitude challenge: the route builds roughly 1,080–1,470 m and runs back down to the start, so it suits hikers who can handle sustained uphill and steady grading rather than just short climbs.

Most starts are from the Lago di Neves parking area, then the walking line runs along the lake’s banks to the north until signs for Rifugio Porro. After reaching Porro, the route continues on Alta Via di Neves (no. 1).

The Alta Via di Neves (no. 1) section tracks along the slopes below Gran Mesulé and Punta Bianca, with a high-alpine character under the three-thousanders and broad glacier-landscape viewpoints.

A common pacing is about 1.5 hours from the lake area to Rifugio Porro, then roughly another 4 hours on the Alta Via di Neves stretch to the Ponte di Ghiaccio hut, after which you descend back to the starting point.

Key route nodes to expect during a loop include Lago di Neves, Rifugio Porro (Chemnitzer Hütte), and Ponte di Ghiaccio hut (Edelrauthütte). The route line is signed well and is generally described as having good trail visibility.
