American Ridge Lodge
American Ridge Lodge is a rustic backcountry lodge in the foothills of the Cascades, just outside the boundary of the William O. Douglas Wilderness. It’s largely unfurnished and offers a kitchen area, counter space and benches, plus closets and cabinets; there’s an outdoor fire ring and picnic tables on site. There’s no electricity (bring lanterns), and the wood stove is not functional, so don’t plan to use it. The lodge is available year-round by reservation only, with use governed by rules such as no smoking inside and target shooting not allowed within 150 yards; a 14-night consecutive stay limit applies.
For planning: potable water isn’t available at the site, and there’s no water on site year-round. During summer, pitcher pump water is available from the Cedar Springs Campground about 1.5 miles away; in fall, winter, and spring you’ll need to bring plenty of water for drinking, cooking, and washing. Horse/pack animals are not allowed, and it’s a pack-it-out facility for all food and garbage. The overnight fee is $108/night and holidays are $150/night (up to sixty occupants), with a minimum stay of one night for non-holiday weekdays, two nights for a weekend, and three nights for a holiday weekend. The lodge sits at about 3,050 feet and is reached off Highway 410 near milepost 88, with access continuing via Bumping River Road / Forest Road 1800 and then Forest Road 381 to the end. Pets are welcome.
