Atalante Trail

Atalante Trail (Atalantos takas) is a circular long-distance hike in Cyprus that loops Mount Olympus in the Troodos Mountains. The route runs on foot paths and is graded moderate, with a generally steady walking effort rather than steep technical climbing.

The loop starts and finishes at Troodos Square in Limassol, with the course designed as an easy-to-moderate circuit around the highest peak of Cyprus (Mount Olympus). The total distance is about 13.5 km, typically taking around 3.5–5 hours at a hiking pace.

Terrain stays mostly high-altitude forest and path, with the route passing through black pine and juniper woodland. Route descriptions also mention a route through an ancient forest feel, including a reported 800-year-old tree along the way.

A key theme of the hike is geology and industrial history: along the trail you’ll encounter information elements tied to local rock types (pyroxenites and serpentinized harzburgites) and pass an abandoned Hadjipavlou chromite mine.

For long-distance planning, expect the route to be straightforward in navigation relative to many mountain walks, with path visibility described as good and the circuit continuing without needing to double back.

Best timing is generally summer through December, when temperatures are cooler and the area is greener; winter conditions can increase difficulty mainly through footing demands even though the route is described as nearly flat.
