Baiyang Trail
Baiyang Trail (also called Baiyang Waterfall Trail) is a short day hike in Taroko National Park, Taiwan, mapped as a ~1.93 km route along the gorge corridor (round-trip distance reported as about 4.2 km by common trip guides). It’s known as a tunnel-heavy walk leading to the Water Curtain Cave highlight.
The route is built around multiple long tunnels—one of the main ones at the entrance is about 380 m—so plan for stretches where daylight disappears. Expect several unlit passages rather than open trail walking.
Time on trail is typically about 1.5–2 hours for the classic out-and-back pace, helped by the generally straightforward “mostly flat” walking character described for this route.
After the tunnel sequences, you reach the Baiyang Waterfall area and its bridge viewpoint at the far end of the hike, followed by the final push into the Water Curtain Cave (often referenced as Shuiliandong).
Water Curtain Cave is characterized by a heavy curtain of cold spring water pouring from the cave ceiling; the experience is tightly linked to the cave’s watery microclimate, so you should be ready to get wet.
For logistics, the Baiyang Trail entrance is described as being on the Central Cross-Island Highway (Highway 8) just west of Tianxiang (about 900 m in one guide summary; around 300 m in another tourism summary), reached from the Tianxiang area by short on-road approach.
