Batchelor Lake Cabin
Route Details
Batchelor Lake Cabin is a Tetrahedron Outdoor Club backcountry cabin in Tetrahedron Park, accessed via the park trail system for overnight stays. The cabin is one of the four park huts at Batchelor Lake (above Edwards Lake), and it is for winter-to-summer users who want a warm base between days out in the Sechelt backcountry.
The cabin is built to accommodate 12 people and is always open except for maintenance; it is not reservable, so use is first-come, first-served. Expect the cabin to include a wood stove and firewood, mattress pads, a sleeping loft upstairs, a snow-melting pot, and sink/greywater buckets, plus an outhouse on site.
Cabin use has specific watershed rules: dogs and swimming are prohibited, and open fires are prohibited. Stay responsible with human waste (use the outhouses), pack out garbage, and avoid washing dishes anywhere except in the cabins; if you need heat, use the wood stove only when absolutely necessary.
Access to the park is via Gray Creek Forest Service Road northeast of Sechelt. During winter conditions, 4-wheel drive vehicles with good winter tires and chains are recommended, and snow plowing on the access road is only sometimes provided by a local volunteer.
Cabin fees are $15/night for non-members and $10/night for Tetrahedron Outdoor Club members. Because there is no booking system for the cabins, plan around busy weekends—especially winter—and bring everything you need for your own stay, including sleeping gear, a food setup for cooking, toilet paper, a fire starter, and a way to purify water; drinking water can often be collected from nearby creeks or lakes, but in very dry summers you may need to melt snow or boil treated water.
