Benson Hut
Benson Hut is a Sierra Club backcountry hut on the Pacific Crest Trail near Anderson Peak, set beneath the north face of Anderson Peak for overnight stops on advanced backcountry traverses. It’s part of the year-round network of rustic Sierra Club huts and is centered around Donner Summit / Soda Springs, California area access patterns.
The hut sleeps up to 12 people in an upstairs sleeping loft and includes a wood-burning stove in the main room plus a cooking stove/kitchen area. Bedding, food, and other essentials are on you; bring your own sleeping gear and pack out your trash.
Use varies by season: in summer it can be reached by vehicle, while in winter it’s typically accessed via a ~5.5-mile hike or ski approach. The reservation line for the hut is (530) 426-3632; the Sierra Club also supports booking through its online partner listing for the Tahoe-region huts.
Capacity and layout are built around small groups: there are up to 6 fold-down bunks when the main room isn’t crowded, and an outhouse is located about ~100 ft west of the hut. The hut has an indoor toilet and provides utensils and stove setup for cooking, but it does not provide potable water.
