Berg Lake Trail
Berg Lake Trail is a world-renowned out-and-back backcountry hiking route in Mount Robson Provincial Park. It follows the Robson River into the Valley of a Thousand Falls, then continues to Berg Lake at the base of Mount Robson and the Berg Glacier area.
Route scale is roughly 26 miles (42 km) round trip with about 2,600 feet (800 m) of elevation gain, typically done as a multi-day trip.
Common trip pacing is 3 to 4 days. A shorter option is to day-hike into some early destinations such as Kinney Lake, but the full trail is built around overnight camping.
The corridor includes standout waterfall and valley sections, including Valley of a Thousand Falls and the Emperor Falls detour; the trail’s end reaches Berg Lake in front of Mount Robson’s major glacial landscape.
Overnight trips require booking to camp at the named trail campgrounds during peak season; day-hiking does not require a reservation, but the park has a permanent set of backcountry rules for safety and access.
Campground spacing along the route includes Kinney Lake, Whitehorn, Emperor Falls, Marmot, Berg Lake, Rearguard, and Robson Pass, with an operator/ranger presence at Robson Pass. Along the trail, camping is limited to established tent pads or established sites.
Visitor guidelines emphasize managing hazards and logistics: slippery/uneven tread, cliffs, fast-flowing river sections and waterfalls, wildlife considerations, and carrying a first-aid kit. There is no campfire use on the Berg Lake Trail, and water must be boiled/treated before drinking.
Dogs are allowed on the Berg Lake Trail for day hikes only (overnight trips with dogs are not allowed), and there is no cell phone service on the trail; a paper map or satellite communication is recommended for emergencies.
