Bog Inn Hut

Bog Inn Hut is a small four-bunk backcountry hut in Pureora Forest Park, used by trampers and hunters for a rustic overnight stay. The hut was built in 1960 to house scientists studying the nearby mountain mire known as “The Bog,” and it has been maintained with preservation work while keeping its heritage character.

Use is first come, first served—no bookings are required. Sleep arrangements are basic (mattresses are provided), and the hut has a wood burner/fireplace and a pit latrine. Drinking water is untreated; bring your own method to make it safe. Fees apply (with hut tickets required for each night), and access is affected by road closures: Tihoi and Bog Inn Roads are closed due to logging on adjoining private land, and the Mt Pureora to Bog Inn track is no longer maintained; signage directs people from the Timber Trail to Bog Inn Hut, with the Hauhungaroa Track open.
