Borealis-LeFevre Cabin

Borealis-LeFevre Cabin is a primitive wilderness cabin managed by the Bureau of Land Management in the White Mountains National Recreation Area (Alaska). It’s for summer and winter use and is equipped with bunk beds and basic cooking and lighting gear, plus an outhouse and a wood stove; there’s no electricity, no indoor plumbing, and no cell phone coverage. The cabin is limited to short stays—max 3 nights—and it has a limit of 8 people per stay. Use is reserved: reservations are required through Recreation.gov or by phone.

In the surrounding area near Beaver Creek Wild and Scenic River, the cabin area supports activities such as hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, river floating, and wildlife viewing. The most direct access described from Fairbanks is via the Steese Highway to Fox, then the Elliott Highway to milepost 28 and the Wickersham Dome parking area; from there you can reach the cabin by trail (Wickersham Creek Trail in winter, Summit Trail in summer) or by floating Beaver Creek. Summer access is not available to ATVs from May 1 through October 14, and Beaver Creek can be crossed on foot only when conditions are safe (not during freeze-up, break-up, or high water).
