Brown Mountain Shelter
Brown Mountain Shelter is a basic backcountry shelter on the Pacific Crest Trail in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. The structure was built in 1993 by the Oregon National Guard and is available year-round for hikers and winter recreationists using the PCT corridor.
The shelter is bare-bones: it includes a wood stove and is a primitive option for warming up or spending the night. Use is free with no fees or permits required for staying at the shelter itself, and it operates on a strict first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system. Winter access is commonly via Pederson Sno-Park, and winter visitors should expect primitive conditions and rely on bringing your own water and supplies.
