Buron d'Eylac
Buron d'Eylac is a backcountry hut operated from Le Claux (Maison de la Montagne) in the Puy Mary area, at about 1,450 m. It’s set up for hut-stage use on foot and is also suitable for experienced glacières/ice-hunting style days—plan around limited onboard services and bring what you need for self-sufficiency.
Inside is a 14-bed dormitory plus a common room with a working fireplace and a chimney. A dormitory-style sleep setup is provided (individual beds with mattress and cover), and the hut includes a place for cooking via a gas stove and basic dishware. There’s no running water, no electricity, and no heating; wood and water are supplied by the managers using jerrycans. From 1 May to 31 October (weather-dependent), showers and toilets are open (limited hot water). In winter, access is only possible by snowshoes or cross-country skis from the Col de Serre (about 2.5 km). Animals aren’t accepted in the hut refuge.
Reservations are handled directly by Maison de la Montagne for the 14 dormitory beds and for tent spots around the hut. Summer rates are 13 € per person; if renting the full 14-person occupancy it’s 156 €. Winter rates are 9 € per person (108 € for the full 14-person booking), with no showers or toilets in winter. Summer tent camping uses the nearby open facilities when the buron isn’t rented exclusively.
