Cabane de la Coumeda
Cabane de la Coumeda is a non-staffed pastoral cabin in the French Pyrenees, used as a backcountry sleeping stop near the route up toward Port d’Urets. It sits at about 1,605 m and is intended primarily for self-reliant, first-come use rather than organized hosting.
Inside, the hut provides bedding for about 5 people (with around 2 mattresses in the loft area). There’s a fireplace/cheminée, and the cabin is having a table and storage. The stove is not provided, and there’s no electricity or running water; plan on water from a nearby source.
Access is through the right-hand side of the torrent, taking the ascent line from the Bocard d’Eylie up toward Port d’Urets. One described approach is to reach the cabin from above after the small drop/ressaut near the hut; the lower approach is considered very steep and exposed on slabs, which is best avoided in wet conditions.
It’s a pastoral cabin that may be closed at times during the summer grazing period when shepherds use it, so treat it as potentially locked/only intermittently available.
