Cabane de Nave
Cabane de Nave is an unmanned backcountry shelter in the Belledonne/Allevard area, used as a base for multi-day traverse-style hikes and for climbs toward nearby peaks. It’s a simple shelter with sleeping space on basic bunk platforms, intended for users who will be self-sufficient overnight (no guardian).
Sleeping is typically for about 6–8 people, and the hut doesn’t provide meals, running water, or on-site creature comforts—plan to carry your own food, fuel, and sleeping gear. Use is generally practical May through September, with winter snow covering the approach road from late November; spring and autumn can be muddy depending on conditions.
For planning routes, common approaches start from the Praz car park near Allevard (about 4–5 hours via the Lac de Cumbal route, gaining roughly 850 m), with an alternative approach from Col de la Pra to the south (adds about 2 hours but is less steep). It also serves as a staging point for ascents of Pic de la Layat (2,733 m) and Pic Blanc (2,928 m).
